The story can be cleared in only 10 hours, but with all the extra content that opens soon after, you’re probably going to get 20 or 25 hours easily out of the entire game. This certainly added a lot of hours to my experience. LU-C1LLE’s dialogue in particular made me laugh on multiple occasions.Īnother thing that surprised me is just how each stage has its own unique gimmick, and even once you’ve finished with the main story, a lot of extra content opens up, with some areas being only accessible because of certain partner abilities you only obtain after a certain period. Hearing their snarky comments towards their workplace, not to mention the thousands of e-mail fragments scattered across the Vanderlay facility about how unsatisfied some of them are just really funny. Especially the robots around the facility. The dialogue in this game is absolutely humorous and I absolutely adore it. However, due to a mishap in the surgery, he ends up with his music player embedded into his chest, which causes him to be capable of feeling the rhythm or beat, of the entire world. Hi-Fi Rush has you play as Chai, a young man who signs up for Project Armstrong, which promises to give a person a robotic arm capable of doing many activities no normal human can usually do. And I just couldn’t resist trying out the game after so many positive comments on social media about how this game was a silent hit and the truth is you really didn’t get disappointed! ▍ A Music Player…Embedded Into His Chest!? Hi-Fi Rush goes against every single notion that people had of the developer, with the marketing even reflecting this. The next biggest exclusive to arrive from either PlayStation or Xbox is Arkane’s Redfall, the Xbox/PC release out May 2. Hi-Fi Rush, meanwhile, will almost certainly get a sequel greenlit after this kind of performance, a coup from Tango Gameworks and its veteran talent. So, what does this mean for both brands? Well, Square Enix isn’t done yet in 2023, given that they have Final Fantasy XVI to release this summer, and few are believing that’s going to be some sort of giant misstep from them. Forspoken, meanwhile, is “Mixed,” only 57% positive on Steam. In addition to these lofty Steam sales, Hi-Fi Rush boasts a 98% “Overwhelmingly Positive” user reviews, based on confirmed purchases. But it’s a far cry from the near-universal praise that Hi-Fi Rush is getting from both critics and fans. The highest praise I’ve heard for it is that “it’s better than people are saying,” and combat can actually be pretty fun if you play it right. It could have been a huge title, as it certainly had the resources behind that to make that happen, but instead it feels like a cautionary tale. At this point, I think it’s safe to declare not just a critical miss with rather low review scores, but a likely financial flop as well for Square Enix.
